Professional Bio
Saartje Berendsen Russell is an experienced emergency nurse with over 20 years in the specialty working in NZ, NSW and Victoria. She is passionate about emergency education and research, but most of all loves to be out on the floor working clinically with patients. Saartje shares the ED CNC position with a research position within the RPA Green Light Institute for Emergency Care - an institute dedicated to translational, clinician led, emergency and critical care research embedded in the RPA ED. Saartje holds faculty positions with the Australian Resuscitation Council and CENA Triage Workshop and guest lectures for undergraduate and postgraduate emergency nursing courses at the University of Sydney. She was awarded the RPAH Excellence in Education Award 2020. Saartje’s interest in emergency research began in 2015 when she took on the project co-ordinator role for the DESTINY research project. She helped facilitate the establishment of the Green Light Institute in 2019 and over this time has worked on multiple local and state-wide research projects and co-authored a number of peer reviewed publications.
