Bruce Bartley

Emergency Physician - Barwon Health

Professional Bio

Bruce is deputy director of the Emergency Department at University Hospital Geelong where he has worked for the last 20 years. He completed a surgical fellowship in Scotland in 1997 and returned to complete his FACEM training at RMH before enjoying an exploratory two year working holiday around Australia including major regional Emergency Departments in the early noughties.

He has local, regional and state level leadership roles in trauma management, disaster preparedness and response. Amongst other regional outreach activities he established a highly successful remotely supervised rural and remote Specialist Training Post in nearby Colac. He has published widely in these areas of interest.

Having recently completed a Master in Public Health and Tropical Medicine his most recent publication in Emergency Medicine Australasia is Buruli ulcer – A neglected tropical disease in the Barwon region of Victoria, Australia: An emerging public health threat with local and national ramifications.

When not at work he will be found surfing, fishing or golfing on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula if he hasn’t disappeared to the enjoy the magnificence of the Kimberley with his wife and dog and revel in the absence of internet and mobile phone reception.
