Dr Ailene Fitzgerald
Professional Bio
Dr Fitzgerald is a General and Trauma Surgeon and current Clinical Director for the Division of Surgery at Canberra Hospital. She has recently stepped down as Director of the ACT Trauma Service after a decade in the role. She is Chair of the ACT Trauma Committee, co-opted RACS Council member, ACT Chair of RACS Trauma Subcommittee, previous Chair and Committee member of RACS ACT, and regularly contributes as faculty at Australian Trauma conferences and courses. Dr Fitzgerald is a Commander in the Navy Health Reserves, having joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1991 as an undergraduate medical student. She served in a number of establishments and ships and completed many deployments, most recently in the Middle East Area of Operations. She has a passion for trauma systems of care and is committed to further developing Trauma Services across Canberra and its surrounding regions. Outside of surgery, she enjoys quality time with family and friends, appreciating the importance of a healthy work-life balance.
